MEMORIAL DAY~~DON’T TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES FOR GRANTED~

ImageYa know this Memorial Day will really be more emotional for me. If you’ve been reading my blog of late, I’ve been sharing my experience as the Executor of my uncle’s estate. He was a Veteran of WWII and if I’m not mistaken Vietnam as well. It’s amazing how you can take people for granted.

ENJOY YOUR LOVED ONES while they are here. I’m so glad me, my sister and cousin got the chance to see uncle and spend some valuable time with him.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! HE Served his Country and was always a NAVY MAN!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

HAVE YOU BEEN NAMED EXECUTOR OF YOUR LOVED ONE’S ESTATE? PART 10

Death and TaxestaxYes we come to the dreaded part of getting the taxes completed for the Estate. Remember, every state is different. My uncle passed away in Washington State so a 706 form has to be filled out. It may have to be done in every state but boy oh boy is it a lot! 31 pages and the instructions are 53 pages. I would probably have to pay a fortune for someone to do this for me so I will take my time and do it myself. I know I will learn a lot. I did get his federal completed at good ol’ H&R Block. I figured if my uncle went there, I should be able to get his final return done there as well. It was easy and the preparer hadn’t done one before but we figured it out together and since my uncle had been a previous client, I received a discount. That was the easy part. I think!

You should definitely consult a certified public accountant or someone who knows what they are doing. I’ll let you know how that turns out!

HAVE YOU BEEN NAMED EXECUTOR OF YOUR LOVED ONE’S ESTATE? PART 9

k12527343Well, now it’s time to get ready to sell the house. Should we sell to an Investor and bypass Realtor fees and get the cash and close the deal quickly as possible? Should we list with a Realtor and have open houses and have a bunch of people walk through the house and criticize and complain about what’s wrong with the house etc.?

Hmmm……Stay posted to find out!

A SALUTE TO ALL MOTHERS

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to ALL mothers Everywhere.

ImageIf you have your mother still with you, appreciate her for all that she’s worth. Just to share on a more personal note, I lost my mother when I was four. If your mother is still with you, call her now, go stop by when you get off work and go to her house and fix her dinner. SHE has Earned IT! Happy Mother’s Day Image

HAVE YOU BEEN NAMED EXECUTOR OF YOUR LOVED ONE’S ESTATE? PART 8

ImageWell, the Estate Sale is Over and I’m glad. I learned a lot from that experience that I shared in the blog post before last https://atlanticcountyhomes.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/have-you-been-named-executor-of-your-loved-ones-estate-part-7/, so check it out if you missed it.

Now that the Estate Sale is over we come to selling the house. What to do! What to do! Should we sell it to an Investor as is? Fix it up and sell it ourselves? Me and my relative was bumping heads over this for a few months going back and forth. BIG MISTAKE.

Do not let this sudden windfall of property which will lead to money come between you and your family member because remember you still have to be sisters, brothers, cousins, etc. when this is all over and you don’t want this situation to potentially destroy your relationship. It happens all the time. When a death occurs in a family, it can have a strange effect on family members and the way they interact with one another. Don’t get caught up in this unhealthy emotional roller coaster. STOP. THINK. SAY YOU LOVE EACH OTHER and you’re not going to allow this to come between you. That’s what me and my relative did and it helped tremendously. It calmed us both down and made us keep our head for the better remembering what was most important–Handling the Estate properly so we can get it closed and move on with our lives.

REMEMBER WHAT’S IMPORTANT! Accomplishing the task of closing Estate your Loved One called upon you to do. Get it Done with LOVE!
