New Jersey Shore Homeowners may be required to obtain Flood Insurance.

And it may not be just because of the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Homeowners in New Jersey may have to purchase flood insurance because of the new mapping being done by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the flood zones in towns along the coastal shore.

To paraphrase FEMA’s regional specialist, Barbara Lynch, there has been alot of changes made and work done with new highways, etc. and things have changed so re-mapping has to be done to see where all the new and old territories cross.

This will mean that areas that were not considered in the flood plain will require insurance and others may be taken out of the flood plain. Either way the re-mapping will be done by engineers not insurance companies so re-mapping will tell who will have to purchase flood insurance and who may be exempt.
